The Queen of Independent Cinema officially joins Culion, Mercedes Cabral – a lady known not just for her beautiful Pinay face, but also for her notable acting performances, has officially joined the powercast for the MMFF hopeful, Culion.
Cabral, tagged as the country’s Queen of Independent Cinema, made a name for herself in Filipino indie films. Some of the independent films that she has been part of are Serbis, Kinatay, and Transit. She also starred in the movie, Oro which was written and directed by Alvin Yapan who is also the director of the upcoming movie, Culion. Cabral also has ties with Culion Producer Shandii Bacolod having worked together in her earlier films.
Cabral arrived on the island few days before the filming for Culion officially came to a close. She joined her co-stars Iza Calzado, Meryll Soriano, Joem Bascon and Mike Liwag who arrived a week prior to her. Jasmine Curtis-Smith, on the other hand, left the island few days before, after she had finished filming all of her scenes.
The producers remain mum about Cabral’s role in the film, but one thing is for sure: with her superb acting skills, Cabral will surely add more layer of drama to the already intricately-woven historical film that tells of a tale that longs to be told.
